Pennington Biomedical Research Center is a research campus in the Louisiana State University System. Research
Over the last 30 years, Pennington Biomedical's world-renowned scientists have made remarkable discoveries that have improved the way Americans exercise, eat, and age and greatly advanced society's understanding of obesity, diabetes, dementia, and other chronic diseases. Researchers have contributed to nearly every obesity and diabetes drug on the market, developed obesity and lifestyle interventions, and are a leading provider of nutrition science for the U.S. military.
The Center's 550+ employees perform research activities across 752,000 square feet of state-of-the-art laboratories, clinics, conference spaces, and offices located on a tranquil 222-acre urban campus in Baton Rouge. The Center's research enterprise includes approximately 65 scientists and more than 20 postdoctoral fellows who comprise a network of 44 laboratories supported by lab techs, nurses, dietitians, and support personnel, and 16 highly specialized core service facilities. Research at Pennington Biomedical covers ten areas: obesity; diabetes; epidemiology & prevention; genomics & molecular genetics; neurobiology; neurodegeneration; nutrient sensing & signaling; cancer; physical activity & health; and developmental biology.
Job Summary:
The position will be split 50% for medical supervision and implementation of clinical trials (Medical Investigator
and/or Principal Investigator) and 50% for independent biomedical research. The role of Medical Investigator
requires oversight of clinical trials, performance of safety medical reviews, participating in the development of
clinical trials, and overseeing the medical aspects of clinical research projects initiated by non-physician
scientists at Pennington Biomedical.
Job Responsibilities:
Research:
- Develop over time your own independent and externally funded in endocrinology and metabolism (e.g., NIH
grants, private foundation grants, and investigator-initiated pharmaceutical grants).
- Publish your research in high impact journals.
- Actively collaborate with other PIs at Pennington Biomedical.
- Participate in other scholarly activities including, grant reviews, participation in professional societies, and
presentations at local, national, and international meetings.
Medical Investigator/Physician Role:
- Provide coverage within the clinical research unit in support of active studies.
- Serve as a medical investigator on funded projects.
- Provide on-call duty for the unit in coordination with medical staff.
- Provide service time in a Pennington Biomedical medical clinic if required by the Chief Medical Officer and the Executive Director.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education Level: MD or DO
Years of Experience: 3-5 years
Certifications/Licenses:
• MD, Board Certified, ACLS, BLS
Specific Experience:
• 3-5 years post-medical residence.
• Contingent on successful licensure to practice medicine in the State of Louisiana. Also contingent on obtaining

About This Role
Maven is seeking mission-driven, adaptable physicians (MD or DO) to join our virtual care team and help shape the future of Maven’s expanding women’s and metabolic health programs. This role is ideal for entrepreneurial clinicians who thrive in fast-paced environments and want to help design scalable, evidence-based care for women across life stages.
As part of our MVP launch team, you will deliver high-quality virtual care across a broad spectrum of needs — from contraception and menopause management to metabolic and weight-related care — while contributing to the development of our clinical protocols and digital care model.
This is a 1099, remote, part-time contract position (10-20 hours/week) with flexible hours. We are especially seeking broadly licensed physicians (ideally 5+ state licenses) to enable rapid national access. Over time, this role may expand to include supervisory responsibilities for midlevel practitioners and participation in future clinical leadership initiatives.
What You’ll Do
- Conduct telehealth visits (video and asynchronous) for members seeking care for metabolic health, weight management, hormonal transitions (e.g., perimenopause, menopause), and contraception.
- Prescribe and manage medications including GLP-1 receptor agonists, hormonal therapy, and contraceptives in accordance with clinical best practice and Maven’s protocols.
- Collaborate with Maven’s Medical Directors, NPs, RNs, and health coaches to ensure safety, continuity, and consistency of care.
- Contribute to clinical protocol development, offering insight on workflow optimization, safety criteria, and escalation frameworks for a scalable digital model.
- Order and interpret labs and manage dose adjustments per protocol or clinical judgment.
- Provide member education and counseling focused on sustainable behavior change, medication safety, and long-term health outcomes.
- Document accurately and efficiently in Maven’s EMR (MPractice), maintaining adherence to quality and compliance standards.
- Participate in case reviews, QA audits, and clinician learning sessions — helping to refine Maven’s evolving model of virtual women’s and metabolic health care.
Who You Are
- Board-certified Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or OB-GYN physician with an active, unrestricted U.S. medical license.
- Broadly licensed or eligible to obtain licensure in multiple states
- Preference for clinicians already licensed in 5+ states (ideally CA, TX, FL, NY, PA)
- 5+ years of clinical experience spanning primary care, women’s health, metabolic or obesity medicine, or telehealth.
- Strong clinical judgment and confidence managing medications across hormonal and metabolic indications.
- Comfortable working in an early-stage, fast-evolving care model where workflows, protocols, and technologies are continuously refined.
- Effective communicator who can collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and translate clinical reasoning into product feedback.
- Passionate about delivering evidence-based, equitable care and advancing Maven’s mission to improve health outcomes for women and families.

The University of Iowa, Department of Internal Medicine Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism is seeking qualified faculty members to join our team at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor on the clinical track. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a leading academic institution dedicated to advancing knowledge in weight management while providing high-quality patient care. Key Responsibilities include:
- Patient Care: Conduct thorough evaluations of patients, including obtaining medical histories, performing physical examinations, and ordering diagnostic tests to determine the underlying causes of endocrine and metabolic disorders. Perform duties at outpatient clinics at various clinic locations in and around Iowa City.
- Diagnosis and Treatment: Develop and implement individualized treatment plans to include dietary guidance, physical activity recommendations, behavioral strategies, and appropriate medical interventions.
- Patient Education: Inform patients about their conditions and provide guidance on lifestyle modifications, including dietary recommendations and exercise regimens to improve health outcomes.
- Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other faculty members to enhance the division’s clinical services and research initiatives. Participate in interdisciplinary teams to improve patient outcomes.
- Research and Teaching: Participate in clinical research initiatives related to endocrinology and metabolism. Mentor medical students, residents, and other healthcare staff in best practices for managing endocrine diseases.
- Compliance: Ensure adherence to all relevant regulations and standards of care, including HIPAA compliance.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: MD or DO degree from an ACGME accredited institution or completion of international postgraduate training equivalent to U.S. standards required.
- Training: Completion of an ACGME-accredited residency program or equivalent, or provisional licensure pathway for trained International Medical Graduate (IMG).
- Board Certification: Candidates must be board-certified in Internal Medicine or in an appropriate area (or non-U.S. board equivalent) or be in the certification process
(pending completion of residency or fellowship).

- Training: Fellowship in Obesity Medicine or Endocrinology and Metabolism
